20 August 2021 – Above, Pons & Associates staff celebrate service and professional milestones.   Congratulations to Isabel (1-year), Tatjana (newly-minted P.E.), Madeline (2-year), Liz (10-year), Callam (3-year), Chan (5+ year).  Missing from the photo are Angela Tucker (5+ year service milestone) and Charles Mends-Cole.

1 March 2021 – Tatjana Berg joins Pons & Associates.  Tatjana’s distinguished career includes 18 years as a construction materials engineering and testing (CoMET) practitioner in the metro Washington DC area delighting private-sector clients, park authorities, municipalities, counties, and transportation agencies.  Tatjana is known for her professional and enthusiastic approach to her engineering craft.  She will be a welcome contributor to the firm’s capabilities as we continue to meet our clients’ needs  with design- and construction-phase geotechnical services, construction materials testing, instrumentation, and Special Inspections for critical/complex structures.  Tatjana is a  graduate of the University of Zagreb where she obtained a B.S. in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Construction Materials, a thesis in pre-cast concrete, and upper-level coursework in concrete technology, polymers, retaining wall design, rock mechanics, advanced foundation engineering, advanced mechanics of materials, and construction quality control and restoration.   We look forward to Tatjana’s continued journey at Pons & Associates! 

18 May 2020 –  Isabel Ledesma joins Pons & Associates.   Isabel is a proud graduate of James Madison University’s Department of Engineering (B.S., Engineering), a program known for a strong focus on sustainability, holistic design, and systems.  We look forward to Isabel’s contributions to our firm and our clients as we continue to provide sustainable geo-engineering solutions.  Welcome Isabel!

2 September 2019 –  Madeline David joins Pons & Associates as a Field Scientist/Professional after a successful internship with us this summer.  Madeline will work both in the field and in the office supporting our firm’s portfolio of geo-engineering, instrumentation, and geo-environmental commissions. She is expected to be an eloquent and strong technical contributor to our continued success.  Madeline is a graduate of Lehigh University where she obtained a B.A. degree (high honors) with a major in Earth & Environmental Sciences, a minor in English, and a keen interest in civil/environmental engineering after a one-year stint as an Undergraduate Researcher at Lehigh’s Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering.  Madeline holds a LEED Green Associate credential.  Welcome to the Team Madeline!

17 January 2018 – Callam Loughran joins the firm as a full-time member of our staff.  He will contribute and assist with environmental investigations and studies; geotechnical engineering projects; vibration, sound, movement and optical geo-instrumentation programs in historic and/or urban settings; and construction monitoring assignments.  Callam is a proud graduate from Virginia Tech where he obtained a B.S. in Environmental Science.  Welcome Callam!

16 October 2015 Pons & Associates becomes certified to conduct Special Inspections (TPIA Certification No. 2015115) under the District of Columbia Department of Consumer Affairs (DCRA) Special Inspections Program.

16 May 2015 – Fairfax County opens Jones Branch Athletic Fields and Arbor Row Stream Valley Park in Tysons Corner, VA. The dedication of these facilities marks an important cornerstone in the transformation of Tysons as a new urban center. Pons & Associates is proud to have served as Geotechnical Engineer-of record (GER) and Special Inspections Engineer-of-record (SIER) during design and construction phases.

January 2015  Chan Tin, P.E.,  joins Pons & Associates. Chan’s career spans over 17 years as a respected geotechnical practitioner in the metro Washington DC area.  He will focus on strengthening the firm’s field and instrumentation service offerings, as well as being a major technical contributor to our expanding geotechnical consultancy. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil and geotechnical engineering from The George Washington University (GW).  He also teaches introductory soil mechanics and graduate-level foundation engineering classes at GW. 

March 2014 – Angela Tucker joins Pons & Associates as Office Manager. Angela will assist professional staff with various administrative aspects of the firm’s work, and will interact closely with our vendor and subconsultant partners, clients, and public agencies as required. Angela brings to bear comprehensive past clerical experience and has previous work experience as a human resources specialist and customer service representative. 

January 2014 – Pons & Associates begins soil infiltration feasibility programs for 4- and 137-acre community and mixed-use developments in urban and suburban Washington DC metro.  Our work will inform sustainable stormwater management strategies and is being performed for one of the largest real estate companies in the metro area.

20 June 2013 – Virginia O’Meara wins Rising Star Award at Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS), Washington DC Chapter.

1 May 2013 – Virginia O’Meara of Pons & Associates coordinates and participates in SMPS DC presentation at Montgomery College.

1 May 2013 – Liz Austin, P.E. is promoted to Associate.  Since joining Pons & Associates in 2011 as a Senior Engineer, Liz has been instrumental in developing the firm’s reputation as a provider of geotechnical engineering services for projects in redeveloped and particularly congested settings.  Her geotechnical work with the firm includes high-rise development, embassy buildings in DC, public school facilities, waste water treatment plant projects, and slope stability repair design and construction monitoring.  Liz holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil engineering from Lehigh University and The Georgia Institute of Technology, respectively, with a master’s concentration in geotechnical engineering.  She previously worked at Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers and Law Engineering.

24 Aug. 2012 – Knowledge Universe Education engages Pons & Associates to provide environmental due diligence for multi-site portfolio at the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, CA.

3 Aug. 2012 – Pons & Associates wins geotechnical investigation for Scotts Run Station, a significant part of the re-development of Tysons Corner, VA as an urban center.

24 May 2012 – Pons & Associates signs Master Services Agreement with PS Business Parks, Inc. (NYSE:PSB), a publicly-traded REIT with national building assets, to provide environmental, engineering, and facility consulting services.
